Early morning cross country run from Flitwick to Luton

Day 31 of the run every day for 366 days running challenge. 8.5 miles. Total miles to date 160.4 OMG. I cant believe its the end of January and this is still going. Makes it a lot easier going to the club in such cold conditions. RJ and Annie from my running club managed to put a speed session into a longer run tonight than normal in very cold conditions. Averaged just over 5 miles a day for the month, but need to pick it up a bit next month to get on target for 2500 miles for the year. Have to admit, it was nice to get in the shower tonight as I was so cold by the time I got home. Still, at least I don't have to run until ,er, tomorrow.

Need to be seen in the dark

At the start of this year, I began what I hope to be 366 days of consecutive running. I also began logging the miles on mine and my running clubs facebook pages. As a result of doing so, I have had so much fantastic support from many people at the club, I thought I would broaden my postings and stick them in a blog as well. So far, my motivation hasn't dropped and I think that is in part due to support I have already had, so at the risk of being a bit self indulgent, I am widening my mutterings to try to get a bit more support. This is a bit presumptuous on my part, as no one may of course be interested. This is a challenge that I have set myself for me alone and I intend to try my very best to do it, but being realistic, a bit of support along the way will no doubt help.

The plan is simple. I want to run at least three miles every day for this current leap year ( hence 366 ), cover a minimum of 2500 miles and with a bit of luck have a crack at all my current PB's and my marathon time in particular. I have never been a 7 day a week runner even when I have entered very long ultras, so this is very much a personal challenge that I am undertaking for no other reason than I really don't know if I will do it and I just want to try.

I am at the same time writing a book about the challenge which is part diary and part fact based story essentially about a year in the life of a very average runner. I don't expect it will ever see the light of a publishers office and that's not the first reason for doing it. I have enjoyed and endured so much in my ever so brief running career, that a large part of me just want's to get it on paper before I forget it. The experiences I have had through running and especially with the club have been on the whole, fantastic and I just want to share what I have been lucky enough to have done so far.

I missed doing this at the start of the year but heck, its never too late to start, so here goes. Copy of the report I put on facebook earlier today.

Day 30 of the run every day for 366 days running challenge. 3.1 miles. Total miles to date 151.9

It was a case of better be seen than not on tonight's run. A bit of DOMS appeared today, as did a slightly fuzzy head after last nights vino. An early work finish allowed me to start in the fading light with Kenny Rogers for company on the i-pod thingy long play music machine. I know not the most current music choice, but the Kaiser Chiefs made me run too fast last week. In contrast, I almost fell asleep at mile 2 listening to the fading country and western hirsute pin up grandad. Need a better balance me thinks. I'm off to check out the popular hit parade to see what little ditties the yuff of today merrily sing along to as they skip off to school, or work, or youth offending hostels, or like what ever, innit though?? Youth speak apparently? Amazing.
